ALL-STAR

Prunus persica 'All-Star'

About the Variety: All-Star is a freestone peach from the Rutgers University breeding program in New Jersey, part of the same regional breeding tradition that produced other "Star" series peaches. It was selected for large fruit size, attractive color, and good flavor in a mid-season slot.

Fruit Description: Large freestone peaches with deep red skin over a yellow background. Flesh is yellow, firm, and juicy with a well-balanced sweet-tart flavor and good peach aroma.

Harvest Window for Cincinnati/Southern Ohio: Late July to Early August

Ripeness Indicators:

  • Background color turns fully yellow

  • Red color covers most of the fruit

  • Fruit softens with gentle give

  • Harvest in multiple passes over 7-10 days

Disease Resistance:

  • Moderate, typical of standard peach varieties

  • No special resistance package

Best Uses:

  • Fresh eating/Freezing/Canning/Baking: excellent all-purpose peach

How to Share This Fruit: All-Star's size and attractive color make it a good centerpiece for midsummer harvest festivals and photo-friendly outreach. Use it as a reliable, crowd-pleasing option for general distribution and preservation workshops.
